Nothing means more to a college student than receiving a care package from home. The perfect care package does not have to be large or expensive; it just needs to show you care. Your child or loved one misses home and wants to hear from their loved ones. Although sending a card or letter can show them that you are thinking of them and miss them, there is nothing like receiving a small gift from home to brighten their spirits and provide them with the will they need to get through midterms and finals.
For the perfect gift, consider sending your student a tasty treat that reminds them of home, such as fresh cookies from home. Better yet, send them homemade cookies or treats that you do not have to bake up from home, but will still leave them thinking of home and their mother's famous recipes.
There are a number of cookie, cake, and sweet treat shops that can bake fresh, delicious treats for your child and can then ship them directly to your child's dorm. Some retailers will even sell custom care packages that have treats that your child will surely love. Also consider sending "build your own" trea
ts made from your favorite college student's favorite ingredients.
You may even consider sending themed gifts. For instance, you can send a gift card to their favorite restaurant in your first care package, send freshly baked cookies from a homemade cookie retailer in the next package, and complete the theme with a coffee sampler from their favorite coffee shop or cafe for their last care package. The next year, you can follow the same food inspired theme with a movie inspired theme.
Another option that any college student will love includes sending a regular gift that they can expect every month. However, this doesn't mean that you have to spend more time, money, or hassle than you would on an infrequent care package. For instance, consider sending a magazine subscription or cookie of the month. This will leave them something to look forward to every month that they can enjoy alone or with friends. It will also surely provide them with an uplifting gift when they need it most. You may not be able to speak to your college-aged child as much as you would like to with their busy school and social schedule, but sending them a care package will show them that you are thinking of them.
