Diabetics do not have an easy time when eating out. While their companions chow down on any kind of food of their choice, diabetics are limited to a menu of what is considered as healthy for them. Many diabetics question why foods that taste good are unhealthy for them. The following list explains why these kinds of restaurant food are considered as unhealthy or even lethal to diabetics.

French Fries. French fries are essentially potatoes that have been deep fried in oil and then liberally sprinkled with salt, served with ketchup. While this is a vegetable, this kind of food is unhealthy to diabetics. This food is loaded with saturated fat, sodium and high in calories. The high fat content would not be properly metabolized by the diabetic, the high sodium content would increase blood pressure and the calories would turn into unhealthy fat. All these would only exacerbate the diabetic condition because the calories would be turned into blood glucose. Because of the lack of or low levels of insulin, the blood sugar levels become elevated, thus contributing to the health issues of diabetes complications.

Commercially Baked Goodies. Ever had your mouth water for muffins, cupcakes or a piece of pie? Diabetics should stay away from these mouth watering goodies as t
hey are a chock full of sugar, fats as well as calories. When a cupcake is digested, the sugars in the food are siphoned off and transformed into blood sugar. This blood sugar is then metabolized by cells for their normal processes through the use of the hormone insulin. Without insulin or if insulin is in such low levels, the excess blood glucose wreaks havoc in the circulatory system, leading to the many complications to develop. Therefore, avoiding sweets is a basic for diabetics.

Pasta and Pizza. Pasta and pizza go hand in hand like white on rice. These are often staples in watching games, parties or even just watching a movie at home. Pasta is carbohydrate loaded and when digested becomes blood sugar. Pizza is also filled with calories because of the bread and other fixings on it. These two essentially become hard to metabolize blood glucose in the diabetic's body and their continued presence in the body would result in complications for the individual's body ravaged with diabetes.

Diabetes is a metabolic condition that only becomes worse with the kind of food the individual eats. Foods high in sugar, such as commercially baked goodies, high in carbohydrates, such as pasta and pizza and high in calories and sodium such as French fries can literally become poison to the body. In the long run, the right diet can make the effects of diabetes much more manageable.
