If you've ever used a coffee vending machine, at an airport, hospital or school, then you will realise that they can be a nice little earner. Coffee vending machines come in all shapes and sizes, from small table-top machines to full-height commercial vending machines, perhaps dispensing more than just tea and coffee. They can be a great move for employers, retailers, or those who operate public spaces such as bus stations or exhibition spaces, offering instant refreshments and some income.
The whole world seems to use coffee as its fuel, with many people relying on a nice morning cuppa to get them going. A coffee machine can bring additional revenue from customers or visitors, while an office coffee machine will keep employees alert and satisfied, provided the coffee comes at a reasonable price and offers a good quality drink. Anyone who has worked in an office will know that some people need coffee to get them through the day. Providing this on site could keep them productive for longer.
The money spent on coffee from a vending machine by the users of the machine should be able to cover the cost of running the machine and any maintenance if you charge for drinks, particularly if you ensure you get service cover on your machine as part of the agreement. While you should probably keep the price low on drinks from office machines for employees, a premium price can be ch
arged for a cup at certain locations including airports, hospitals, community centres and retail outlets.
If the cost of buying a vending machine is too great, then you might consider leasing one. Vending machines don't cost much to run, and many are easy to clean and re-stock without the need for a daily visit from an operator. A poorly-maintained vending machine is as good as non-existent; nobody wants a rubbish cup of coffee from a dirty machine which has run out of milk. But choose a reliable machine from a reliable company and service calls can be on average once a year.
Vending machines are great for a number of reasons. Customers or employees get instant access to reliably consistent food and drinks. Owners can gain an income from these machines with relatively little investment. Everybody appreciates the ability to get a decent cup of coffee, tea or chocolate whenever they want it, and it can encourage people to socialise and work harder. Difficult meetings can be refreshed with a coffee break while the vending machine can replace the water-cooler as a pillar of office communication.
You might consider buying a kettle and some instant coffee as a better way of spending the cash, but giving employees access to reliable coffee at the touch of a button is a great way of keeping them productive. It's also more eco-efficient than the kettle, whilst keeping kitchen areas clean and tidy. Customers will appreciate the option, and you could earn some income on the side.
