Iron is a very important; it is a fundamental necessity for hemoglobin in the red blood cells. For those of you who do not know what hemoglobin is, it is molecule that is found in red blood cells.
For those of you who do not know what a molecule is, it is a very small particle- and I mean like super small. Imagine how small a red blood cell is, now toss a few hemoglobin molecules in there-you see it is small.
Now with that very simple understanding of hemoglobin and molecules let me enlighten you to their purpose. These little particles are responsible for transferring oxygen from the lungs to the organs and tissues.
Iron equals oxygen. That is what I am saying, and that is why it is so important to have a good amount flowing through your circulatory system.
For us men iron usually isn't a problem, but for a lot of women having a good amount of iron is hard to do. This is because their bodies do not metabolize it as well, and because women's diets usually do not include iron rich foods.
Iron is predominantly found in red meats, breakfast eggs, mollusks, the types of things men like to eat. It is also found in lentil
s, artichoke, dark leafy greens, and dried fruit like raisons and prunes.
The problem is the iron in the second list is all plant iron known as non-haem iron. Non- haem iron is going to be a lot harder for your body to metabolize and even if there is 5 grams in your artichoke and spinach salad, you may only get a small portion of useful iron in your blood.
Haem iron, found in red meats, mollusks and egg yolks are going to be easily converted into useable hemoglobin in the blood stream. Why is hemoglobin so important to have?
Well it is simple it feeds your organs oxygen. If you go more than ten seconds without fresh oxygen in your brain, there is going to be some damage.
If you have never had brain damage before than you will know that this is a serious situation. Your whole life can change from just ten seconds of no oxygen.
Don't worry holding your breath for ten seconds isn't going to stop the oxygen from getting to your brain. Your blood is holding reserve fresh oxygen in its hemoglobin, so you can hold your breath for up to 5 minutes without having brain damage.
Secondly this nutrient is going to provide muscular energy. This is going to be good for those guys who are looking to hit the gym.
