Many people have troubles staying awake at work. You would think that the main thing a person should do would be to just get a good night's sleep and to not take naps in order to get yourself into a wakeful pattern.
But, it's not that easy for many people in today's world. There are multiple reasons why people get sleepy at work, The problem is not just solved by getting into a habit and schedule of wakefulness.
Some of the problems that can contribute to sleepiness on the job are narcolepsy, hypothyroidism, adrenal stress, gluten sensitivity, and immune stress. There are actually many other reasons, but these are some of the main ones.
Of course, on the mild side of things, for the average person, occasional sleepiness can happen and can be solved with some easy dietary remedies.
One of the biggest needs is for hydration to the brain. It's very important to stay properly hydrated.
Some people like to stay hydrated with a gulp of water every 20 minutes, while others may just drink a cup or two each hour.
If you don't want to be running to the bathroom every hour, then the 20 minute gulp works pretty well. It's kind of like a mist in a rain forest.
While drinking a lot more is like a flood in the desert. Many people like to drink caffeinated drinks to stay awake.
This may
be a good strategy in an emergency situation such as driving at night or operating on a patient after already being awake for 24 hours.
But, to drink something with caffeine regularly is to put your health at risk and set you up for greater fatigue later. It can damage your nerves and cause a multiplicity of health problems.
Studies have shown that something as simple as eating an apple can do a lot for helping a person to stay awake. Even the habit of nibbling on vegetable sticks can keep a person more alert.
However, if you are at your job and you are making a loud noise with your crunching, your co-workers may not appreciate it. But, the nibbling on low-calorie, high-fiber snacks is a wise thing to do if you are trying to lose weight.
There are certain herbs which are safe and also contribute to alertness such as cayenne pepper pills. If you find yourself falling asleep and being extra drowsy in the afternoons after all your efforts to stay awake, you may want to get a checkup with a doctor to find out what the problem is.
