The amount of calories you are consuming each day directly effects how overweight you are. Studies show that obesity or just overweightness is one of the primary precursors to heart disease.
Not to say if you are fat that you are automatically going to get heart disease, and if you are not fat that you are going to be completely safe from it either. To protect yourself entirely you need to adopt a healthy diet no matter who you are.
Start counting your calories. Calculate as many calories you could use in a day, according to your height and size compared to the size you want to be.
Calories are going to measure the amount of burnable energy in a food, though not all calories are going to be the same. Some foods are going to be rich in nutrients that are going help protect your heart by fortifying it with strength.
On the other hand other foods are going to provide calories with no nutrients whatsoever, like fast food and gas station gummies. Foods that are great for your heart are the kinds that provide nutrients.
Foods high in fiber are going to do a world of good for your cardio vascular health, pumping blood like a champ in no time. Try to get
around 40 grams of fiber each day, though if that is too much you can settle for a single 25 grams.
Fiber is easily found in dark green foods like spinach and salads, though you can also get it in your fruits too. There are many other vitamins and minerals that are going to help your heart in many ways that fiber won't.
Things that fiber will do: it will help to manage weight by stunting your appetite, it will help cleanse the body of gross products in the intestines, and it will help maintain a healthy cholesterol. However, fiber will not: protect your heart against cancer, inflammation or any other sort of virus.
To get good virus protection you need to be consuming anti-oxidants, which come mainly from fruit and vegetables. So if you are eating vegies to get your fiber you are likely going to be getting a good amount of anti-oxidants as well.
The main thing is to avoid eating empty calories, and replace them with healthy whole foods that are actually going to do your body some good. Many nutrients are fat-soluble, meaning that they need a good level amount of fats saturated and monounsaturated fats in the body.
You can get this balance by eating fruit like avocado, or by systematically comparing foods and mixing them, but the first way is easier.
