By the time I was in college, I was extremely over weight, but at that point I finally found enough discipline and desire within myself to take things into my own hands.

In my family it is a constant struggle to maintain a healthy weight. In high school my friends were able to live off of a combination of potato chips, French fries, and pizza and still maintain slim, trim, and attractive figures with little or no daily exercise. During this same time period I quickly discovered that their kind of life style wasn't going to work for me.Even though it was obvious to me that if I continued to live my life the way the rest of my friends were it was going to lead to a lot of weight gain, it still took me a while to develop the discipline and self control necessary to keep myself from putting on the pounds.

By the time I was in college, I was extremely over weight, but at that point I finally found enough discipline and desire within myself to take things into my own hands. I decided that I needed to change out some of my less healthy favorite foods for more healthy ones like popcorn. I also needed to begin an intense workout schedule.Things started out slow. In the beginning I didn't have the physical ability to do the intense workouts that were necessary for me to achieve my weight loss goals, but little by little I was able to work up to doing slightly more strenuous activities each day.

Pretty soon instead of walking around the block, I was jogging around the block. Soon after that, instead of jogging around the block, I was running several miles at a time. Pretty soon my running was like an addiction. It was easier to go running than not to go. Getting myself in good enough shape that I could do these kinds of workouts made a huge difference in my physical and emotional health.

I still needed to make sure that I was being careful about the kinds of foods that I was putting into my body. Instead of drinking soda, I made sure to choose water. I learned to eat fruits instead of sugary desserts. Another thing I learned was that eating popcorn was a great way to fulfill snack cravings without filling up on a lot of fat and calories. Popcorn is really quite filling. It is a great diet food because it completely satisfies your cravings and leaves you feeling full without giving you the full figure that you are trying to avoid.
