With more and more people looking for help regarding their diets and their health, one question which appears time and time again is do crash diets work?
This is a very tricky question and a very tricky answer because we are all very different and react differently to different diets, different health regimes and even different thoughts. So what do we have to consider?
Weight loss
There is no doubt that a crash diet does have the potential to allow you to lose significant amounts of weight in a relatively short period of time. This may be very useful for weddings, special occasions or other events and could ultimately lead to an increase in your confidence which could help you in the future. However, the vast majority of experts believe that crash diets are literally storing up problems for the medium to longer term because your body and your mind may well struggle to keep the excess weight off which you lost on your crash diet.
It's all in the mind?
The trick to losing weight is not to introduce yourself suddenly to a totally different regime but to effectively slowly but surely change your eating habits and your exercise habits. This will allow your body as well as your mind to get used to your new way of life and could ultimately lead to a very safe and are very healthy weight loss program over a longer period of time. If you feel comfortable with your new regime then the chances are you will retain your new shape and your new weight and ultimately you should get more confidence and be happier.
Life changing habits
There are many areas of the mind and the body which many of us may not understand and may not be making full use. It
is well-known that exercise releases various chemicals in the brain which make you happy and can assist with increasing your confidence and your peace of mind. This is very much the same with regards to changing your diet in that you need to change the way you think about food, the way you react to food and your exercise regime. But you need to change these over a relatively medium to long-term period of time to get the best out of them.
If you think of your new health regime and new exercise regime as a new "career" then this is not too far from the truth. If you are starting a new career you will need to do your homework, you will need to research the subject and ultimately you will need to find out if it suits you. In simple terms, not everybody will react in the same way to the same diet because there are aspects of our make-up, both mentally and physically, which are all very different. Some people will react very differently to the same diet with some losing a significant amount of weight and some people will see very little in the way of change.
Conclusion
There is no doubt that crash diets are helpful for some people in certain situations such as weddings and similar events and if you're looking for a long-term solution to your weight problem and your exercise difficulties then these are not the answer. It is highly likely that those who undertake crash diets to lose a significant amount of weight will regain part or all of this weight in a relatively short period of time once the "crash diet" is over. This is not the answer to anybody's health and diet problems.
Aligning your mind and your body to a new health and exercise regime is very much like training for a new profession and one which will hopefully see you through the rest of your life. A healthy mind is a healthy body and a healthy body is a healthy mind.
