Generally people that love the outdoors love to eat good food too, at least for the most part that is. Adventuring the great outdoors is a great way to pass the time, but it is also tiring and can make a man very hungry.
Some hard shell chocolate covered snacks are not going to satisfy the cravings of a connoisseur of outdoor foods, but while working a trail you cannot just whip out the shish kabobs and BBQ. That is why God invented trail mix, or Indians; it is not actually known who the first person was to mix peanuts into a bowl with other nuts and some raisins.
It is a very simple recipe, so it may have been invented by the American Indians of old or maybe even by the Neanderthals of old. Being that it is so easy to make, creates all the more appeal.
Besides only taking a matter of minutes to prepare, it is very easily stored; all you need is a zip lock baggy and room temperature. Now you can almost find those two things at any grocery store.
Here is what you are going to need: one large mixing bowl, and one large spoon. For ingredients: two cups of salted/ roasted peanuts, one cup of salted/roasted almonds, a cup of salted/ roasted cashews, a cup of good-quali
ty dark chocolate chips, one cup of dried blueberries, one cup of dried cherries, one fourth cup of crystallized ginger (finely chopped), and one half cup of unsweetened coconut flakes.
Preparation is not hard and if you don't want to waste five minutes, then you can have your child do it for you. Just take all the ingredients and place them in the aforementioned mixing bowl and stir them until all the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout.
Now that you have set up the trail mix, you want to store it in an air tight container of some sort: a jar with a lid, a can with a top, a sealable baggy (like was mentioned before), or just whatever you want so long as it is air tight. What you want to do is keep the trail mix contained until you are ready to go explore some new land or until you have a slight appetite and you want a tasty snack.
This is the fanciest way you can go about making trail mix, making it the most gourmet recipe available. But if you do not want to get so carried away with a simple snack, you can omit almost all the ingredients you don't like.
However, you have to keep at least two ingredients otherwise it is not trail mix; it would simply be called peanuts or raisins. Now get out there and start eating great as you explore the wilderness.
