What are wine clubs and how can they save you time and money? These are the questions that this article seeks to answer.

Wine Clubs are one way that many people sample wines from all over the world without ever leaving the comfort of their own home. These clubs are often far more affordable than you would believe. They also happen to be very eclectic.

There are Australian selections; American clubs from California, Oregon and beyond; French varieties and eve boutique clubs from vineyards all over the world. These memberships make it easy to indulge your need to sample the flavors of wines from across the globe, often even some that are not available from any other source.

These memberships make special arrangements with vineyards and buy in such large quantities that they can pass the savings on to you.

So what are the benefits to a wine of the month club, you may ask?

1) These clubs buy wines in bulk so that they can offer them to you at a considerable discount.

2) You don't have to worry about heading out to the liquor store to purchase your wine, as it is delivered to your door once a month.

3) You can choose to receive hard to find, award winning wine from some of the bigger wineries or you can choose a smaller wine club that offers boutique wines.

4) You can choose a local club or have wines shipped in from Australia, France, California and beyond.

5) You can often choose to receive either two bottles of red wine or a bottle of red and a bottle of white.

6) In many cases you can choose whether you want to pay monthly or pay in advance for a 6 or 12 month subscription.

Now wine of the month clubs are very different from wine tasting clubs, a club of the month means what it says. It is a club that selects and delivers wines to you to enjoy in your home and automates this process for you. Your credit card is charged a predetermined fee and two bottles are selected for you and delivered to your door. A wine tasting club is usually locally based at a restaurant or bar and is better geared towards those who want to get out of the house and sample different wines. You would get a sip of one and a sip of the other but you would not have a full bottle to yourself and you would not be able to bring the wine home unless you purchased it, usually for retail value.

So criteria comes into play when deciding which of these two wine venues you wish to pursue. If you enjoy sipping wine in the comfort of your own home then go for a wine of the month club. If, instead, you enjoy mingling with new people and don't mind paying a higher price to actually purchase a bottle then think of joining a wine tasting club in your area. You can find many of them at meetup.com.

Some of the prominent wine of the month clubs available are the American Cellars wine club; some of the 90 point clubs, which only offer wines that have been given the esteemed 90 points or higher ratings by wine authorities like the Wine Spectator; or some of the better known International wine clubs. Again choose based on your criteria of price, area where the wine is cultivated and whether you are looking for a prestigious 90 point or better wine or the thrill of discovering wine from some of the smaller boutique vineyards. Whichever wine club you choose, make a celebration of it. Have your own wine tasting at home. Bring out the cheeses and sliced meats that you enjoy, or perhaps a piece of chocolate for the sweeter wines and really enjoy each precious sip.
