If you are a regular coffee drinker and frequently dine out for lunch at cafes and local coffee shops then you will probably be a professional at ordering your coffee and can specify exactly how you like it to a fraction of precision. But if you are not so relaxed with your coffee ordering abilities the mass amount of coffee drink choices and variations of these drinks can be a little over whelming and down right confusing. A lot of the coffee drinks available today consist of a variation of types of coffee mixed with milk, or chocolate or steamed milk etc and so they are a bit of a coffee cocktail.
Let's look at some of the popular coffee drink options and the translation of these coffee drink names in simple speak:
Caffe Latte - this type of coffee comes in a long glass and is a shot of espresso coffee with a good helping of steamed milk. An espresso coffee is very strong which is why you only need a small amount, usually a shots worth, and the steam milk bulks out the drink and dilutes the strong coffee taste evenly amidst the creamy milk. A popular choice among many as it gives you the coffee kick but the milk mellows the taste for easy drinking.
Caffe Mocha - do you have a sweet tooth? If so this coffee drink is definitely for you. It consists of a shot of espresso, steamed milk, cocoa, and whipped cream. This coffee drink can be quite filling and can be described more of a coffee desert than a beverage!
Cappuccino - a very popular choice and is simply a combination of an espresso with steamed and foamed milk. The foamed milk creates a layer of froth on top of the drink which is sometimes accompanied with sprinkles of chocolate on top.
Espresso - the hard stuff. Espresso drink is the original and still today the most popular coffee drink throughout Italy, it's a small shot of very strong coffee which gives a real kick and finishes any meal perfectly.
These are set drinks that are available but you can also make up your own variation such as having two shots of espresso instead of one, soya milk instead of cow milk, half fat oppose to full fat, and even extra hot temperature coffee. The options and variations are endless.
